    So You've Booked Your Session

    NOW WHAT?

I am excited to capture you and your loved ones!  With Lifestyle photography, my goal is to guide you in poses that allow your family's personality and connections with one another to shine through. My hope is that these images will preserve the special moments of your family.

Location: Together, we will decide on a location that best suits your family.  Is there a place that's sentimental to you?  Whether you want to shoot in your home, a favorite local park, or you prefer the vibe downtown, we will find a location that makes a beautiful backdrop and fits your style. Don't have a spot in mind? No problem! I'm happy to suggest some of my favorite places.

**Since I am a natural- light photographer and do not use flash, the space will require adequate natural light.

TimeIf we are shooting outside I prefer morning or evening to avoid the harsh lighting of the mid-day sun. If it works with your family's schedule I recommend our session taking place within 2 hours of sunset to capture the beautiful evening light.  If the session is taking place in your home, I recommend mid-morning or whenever you get the most light in the main room we will be using.

Many families tell me that they simply have the kids take a late nap or have some down time prior to their evening session to help it run smoothly.

What to Wear: You and your family should be comfortable and your wardrobe should reflect your own personal style. If your toddler can't stand the feel of a collared shirt, don't put him in it. I recommend coordinating with similar colors and patterns, not matching outfits. It's also best to avoid wearing clothing with graphics, words, and neon colors (especially neon orange and red) because it can reflect poorly on skin tones.  I will be capturing your full body in photos so you'll want to make sure shoes, socks, and accessories look cohesive.  I'm always happy answer any questions you have too.

Length Of Session: My family sessions usually last  45 minutes - 1 hour.  Don't worry, I can easily get a diverse and adequate gallery in that time.

Props:  For the most part I do not use props, but if you have something you'd like to include in the session just let me know.

Your Children: I too have kids and can totally relate. If our session has been planned for the evening and your children still take naps, I recommend pushing their nap a little bit later if they will be up later in the evening. If your children are not at the napping age, I recommend down time later in the day so they aren't tired for a session.

Children are not usually fond of being told to pose or smile so I aim to make our time together as fun and natural as possible. While we will aim to get family photo of everyone smiling, it's ok for the kids to be themselves and let their fun, energetic personalities shine through. Most children warm up within the first 10 minutes of the session.

Feel free to bring dry, non messy snacks so their little faces stay clean during the session. Avoid anything chocolate or with a colored candy coating that can melt or cause their lips and tongue to change colors. Gummies are my personal go-to.

Let your children know about the session before we meet and explain that it will be a fun time for your family to be together.  If it helps, show them a photo of me from instagram or from my "meet Kelly" page. This can help the experience be less scary if they get nervous about meeting new people.

Please arrive on time or be ready to start on time: Remember, your session is scheduled according to light.  It is important that we start on time.  Please plan for traffic or parking constraints.  It's best to arrive early.

I can't wait to capture your family!  Do not hesitate to email me with any questions you have.  I'm looking forward to seeing you soon!
